Aboriginal Line Trades Pre-Placement Program

Power Line Technicians construct, maintain and repair electrical power transmission and distribution systems. They:

  • Install pad-mounted equipment and underground high voltage and low voltage power cables.
  • Splice and terminate high voltage power cables. Connect and maintain overhead and underground transformers, distribution centres and locate underground power cables.
  • Build and maintain wood poles and steel structures, operate switches, transformers and associated electrical equipment.

The Pre-Placement Program is 7–8 months in duration. At the successful completion of the program, Pre-Placement trainees will compete for a position in the Power Line Training Program at a Skills Assessment and Trade Opportunity (SATO). There is no guarantee of ongoing employment at the completion of the Pre-Placement Program.

Educational Qualifications:

High school graduate with at least one of the following: Mathematics 40S (Applied or Pre-Calculus), Physics 30S or English 40.

Selected candidates will be provided educational assistance to upgrade to the minimum academic requirements for the Power Line Technician Training Program.
