What do Power Electricians do?

Power Electricians utilize specialized equipment along with manufacturer's information when installing and testing equipment in the power system. When there is a power disturbance, Power Electricians are called upon to isolate and repair the defective equipment, restoring the power system to normal. They use electrical schematics and various electronic testing and measuring equipment to locate the fault.

Power Electricians work in various environments including clean or dirty, indoors or outdoors, and at various heights requiring bucket-truck or ladder work. Other work requires a high degree of mechanical ability with the ability to work to very close tolerances, and involves operating computers and sophisticated test equipment. Travelling and being away from home is also a significant part of the job requirements.

Power Electricians work normal daytime hours; however, in the case of emergencies they may be called upon to restore power at any hour and in any weather.
