The selection process uses standard aptitude tests and panel interviews to screen qualified applicants. Selected applicants will attend a one day pre-employment Skills Assessment and Trade Orientation session. Applicants invited to attend will demonstrate some basic skills, including the ability to work at heights and in confined spaces, follow instructions and work as a team member. Successful applicants will be selected from the group attending the Skills Assessment session.
Those candidates selected for the Skills Assessment and Trade Orientation must provide a current driver's abstract upon arrival.
If you are accepted into the Service Person Training Program, you must purchase a prescribed set of hand tools which include items such as pipe wrenches, socket sets, various types of pliers, screw drivers and a tool box. You may purchase these items through a Payroll Purchase Plan.
As a Service Person you will work in urban and rural areas throughout Manitoba. During your training, you may be rotated to different work locations and spend limited time away from home at the Corporation's expense. As a Journeyman you may apply for positions in various locations as vacancies arise.
Employment opportunities for Service Person Trainees in Manitoba Hydro are expected to continue at the rate of approximately seven new hires per year.
Experienced Service Persons may advance to supervisor, senior operator and dispatcher positions. They can also transfer their skills to related occupations such as trainer, health and safety officer, or business representative.
