Natural Gas Permits and Inspections

• All natural gas equipment and appliances must be installed by a licensed gas fitter, who is usually a plumbing and heating dealer; consumers can not install natural gas equipment themselves.
• A licensed gas fitter is required by law to take out an installation permit from the Manitoba Department of Labour; permits may not be purchased by consumers.
• The installation permit generates an inspection by a Manitoba Hydro natural gas inspector, who checks the installation to ensure that it has been installed according to all federal and provincial gas code requirements. These inspections are conducted as an added safety precaution for customers.
