On behalf of Manitoba Hydro, I wish to express my sincerest condolences and deep sadness on the passing earlier today of Assembly of Manitoba Chiefs Grand Chief Cathy Merrick. To say I was stunned to learn of her passing is an understatement. I had the great honour and privilege of meeting with Grand Chief Merrick for the first time earlier this morning, and we spent our time together discussing issues of mutual interest between Manitoba Hydro, the AMC, and the First Nations they represent.
Grand Chief Merrick, as the first woman to lead the AMC, occupies a place in history. She was a dedicated and passionate leader who worked diligently to ensure the fair and equitable treatment of Indigenous peoples across Manitoba.
To Grand Chief Merrick’s family, friends, the AMC and indeed the entire community, I offer my deepest sympathies.
