Manitoba Hydro crews are working to safely restore power after a large number of outages across the province this weekend. High winds, in some cases gusting to 100 km/h, damaged power lines, utility poles and other equipment. Additional staff have been called in to help with repairs.
If you see downed power lines, remain at least 10 metres (30 feet) away and call 911.
Manitoba Hydro’s online outage map and outage reporting system, and other online self service functions, are operating again after being unavailable due to a required internal system upgrade. Customers are encouraged to use the online reporting function.
The utility’s call center (1-888-624-9376) remains available to report power outages but wait times are longer due to high call volume.
Manitoba Hydro works first to repair any downed power lines that could pose a public safety risk. Crews then move on to repairs that will re-energize the largest blocks of customers first, before turning their attention to outages affecting smaller groups or individual customers.
Unfortunately, due to the severity of damage, the high number of no power calls received, and the large number of trees and branches down that crews are having to clear, Manitoba Hydro may not be able to restore service to all customers by the end of the day. As a result, customers should prepare for extended outages.
“We appreciate everyone’s patience as we work to restore power as quickly and safely as we can,” said Scott Powell, Manitoba Hydro’s Director of Corporate Communications.
