If kids answered a safety question at the Manitoba Hydro booth, they got to keep one our iconic blue cowboy hats as a prize.

Smiling kids skipping from booth-to-booth, the smell of freshly-fried mini donuts, the clip-clop of horse hooves — these were the sights and sounds of the Royal Manitoba Winter Fair this April at the Keystone Centre in Brandon.

About 70,000 patrons joined in the fun at the annual week-long event and we sponsored kids to get in for free. We also sponsored the Manitoba Hydro KID ZONE and Amphitheatre and the four-horse championship.

“I have so many memories going to the Winter Fair as a kid, and I love being able to pass that on to a new generation,” says Tara Kendzierski, a community investment and public safety specialist for Manitoba Hydro.

“It’s a big event for western Manitoba and a really great opportunity to connect with kids, families, and rural customers,” Tara says.

Over the week, Tara and the rest of our community investment crew shared electricity and natural gas safety messages with more than 1,800 kids at the our booth.

“The Royal Manitoba Winter Fair is one of our biggest sponsorships each year,” says Alexis, supervisor of Manitoba Hydro’s community investment section. “We know it’s important for our rural customers, and we’re proud to have supported this event for decades.”

Jeff Betker, Manitoba Hydro’s Vice-President, External & Indigenous Relations and Communications, also joined in the festivities at the four-horse championship on Thursday evening.

“We’re a company of Manitobans working for Manitobans, and we understand the value of community, family and fun,” Jeff says. “We want to provide Energy for Life, and to us that doesn’t just mean keeping the lights on.”
