A high bill can be stressful and confusing. If you find yourself wondering why your bill is higher than normal, there may be a few common reasons behind it:
-
Equal Payment Plan (EPP) adjustment month: August marks the end of the EPP year (September – July), and your bill will look different this month. Your August bill will show charges for your energy use, and you will see a bill credit (used less than planned) or balance owing (used more than planned) based on your EPP year. Check your EPP history within your online account or check your bill under the EPP summary.
-
Weather: heating and cooling alone can be more than 60% of your energy bill. At times of extreme heat or cold, you will use more energy to keep your home at a comfortable temperature.
-
Billing or rate changes: meter reading (actual versus an estimated read), the number of days in a billing period, rate changes and carbon charges all play a role in your monthly charges.
